Nothing But Nets - 1 4 all, all 4 1!!!

Earlier today I had a great conversation with Negin at Nothing But Nets and we were discussing their Cameroon Campaign. Nothing But Nets is an organization created by the United Nations Foundation in the effort to stop the spreading of Malaria in Africa. Right now they are inviting people to join them in their efforts to send 225,000 nets to families in Cameroon. These nets can keep entire villages healthy and alive. Malaria is the #1 cause of death in Cameroon. Every year up to 200,000 newborns die from Malaria related complications.

It's 10USD per net and this includes the training and education that comes with it. Together WE can cover and protect AFRICA!

OPRAH, CIAO BELLA!

Everyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with Oprah. I am super sad that today is her final show...ready to sit down and cry! Whyyyyyyyyy?!!?? I've watched the Oprah show since I was a child and even learned English by watching her. Although I don't want her to go off air, I guess there comes a point in everyones life where you have to move on to bigger and better things, even O. "You know who" is even excited to watch this one, not sure if it's because he's happy she's going off air or the fact that I'll stop trying to force him to watch it. This means that I will never go to Chicago and sit in her audience :(

Hmm, wonder if I'll ever meet her...we'll see...

Had to move my 3 o'clock to 2.30, I'm not missing a single second of this episode. That's how paranoid I am about this, I won't even leave Manhattan (can't go to far away from home). This is New York, it will literally take you 2 hours to get from point A to B...just saying. Poor Manny, he has to come all the way up here to do something for me.

WAITING FOR SUPERMAN!!!

I finally got around to watching OSCAR Award winning filmmaker Davis Guggelheim's documentary; Waiting for Superman. I've been meaning to watch it since it first came out but didn't get around to it until now and I have to say that I am pissed!!! It is scary how the educational system in this country works. I love America and the opportunities that come with living here but it's ridiculous that the development of young children is being compromised due to failing school systems and worthless teachers. Since I was not born or raised here and moved to the States as an adult I wasn't fully aware of the poor educational system in this country. Education is a necessity and it's a matter of survival, confidence and being able to become a competitive force with several options, IT'S NOT A JOKE!

Michelle Rhee, former Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools has been a key force in the fight for children. After resigning as Chancellor she founded STUDENTS FIRST (studentsfirst.org) a non profit organization based in Washington DC. The purpose of the organization is to fight and demand a better educational system in America.

Let's all do what we can to try to fix this problem!!!

TOMS is not just a Shoe Company

In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers. In 2011 Mycoskie announced during a his SxSW keynote that in June of this year he will unveil a new ¨1 for 1¨ product. Let's support this movement by buying a pair of TOMS and let's get inspired and encouraged.  

Egypt's Mubarak stays in post, hands powers to VP

CAIRO – Egypt's Hosni Mubarak refused to step down or leave the country and instead handed his powers to his vice president Thursday, remaining president and ensuring regime control over the reform process. Stunned protesters in central Cairo who demand his ouster waved their shoes in contempt and shouted, "Leave, leave, leave."


The rapidly moving events raised the question of whether a rift had opened between Mubarak and the military command. Hours earlier, the military announced it had stepped in to secure the country, and a top general announced to protesters in Tahrir Square that all their demands would soon be met, raising cries of victory that Mubarak was on his way out.


Several hundred thousand protesters packed into Tahrir Square, ecstatic with expectation that Mubarak would announce his resignation in his nighttime address. Instead, they watched in shocked silence as he spoke, slapping their foreheads in anger and disbelief. Some broke into tears. After he finished, they broke out into chants for him to go.


We can only pray for our brothers and sisters in Egypt and hope that peace is in their near future.
