Books: Momzilla

Since laughter is the most powerful medicine of them all, I give you "Momzilla". I read this book a few years ago when flying from Stockholm to New York. When I landed in New York, I only had 2 more chapters to complete the entire book. Don't get me wrong, it's not the most intellectually stimulating read but it's lots of fun. It's an insight to the insane lives of the mother's on Manhattan's upper east side. Trust me when I say that I laughed from the first page to the last. Ah, joy!

The Penny Loafer

-By Sha Glynn- While roaming around the Bloomingdale’s Friends and Family Sale this weekend, I became nostalgic.  And excited!  I was, for lack of a better word, slightly “verklempt” after noticing just how many new penny loafers were on display.  I couldn’t help but think about 5th grade, when I sported my loafers along with my white Jordache jeans and my sparkly Michael Jackson glove.  My childhood best friend and I even “designed” our own tops, writing PYT on white sweatshirts using red and black markers.  My Mom was appalled, I’m sure, but oh…those were the days!

The humble little loafer, once the source of emergency funds for kids needing to make a phone call—way before cell phones and even before pay phones cost a quarter—has come a long way.  Now it’s something of an icon and I’m so happy that it’s back!

From old-school, flat ones to cutting edge loafer pumps, these shoes are the perfect answer to the fall blues.  Wear them with jeans while tailgating on the weekends or with skirts to work.  Maybe you’ll even get the urge to listen to Michael Jackson’s Thriller album, like I did!

Looking fashionably forward...

Today: Made my heart smile

Here it is again...another great conversation. Driving home today I randomly thought of someone I had not spoken to for a while. I have this rule that when someone crosses my mind I must call them, no it's not superstition...I promise, either way, I picked up the phone and called. The rest is what became a great talk.

It's funny how sometimes the one person that you haven't spoken to for a while will have the most amazing things to say. It may be a few nice words, or a considerate statement, and they may even share an advice or two, not knowing that it was much needed ;) (yes, I'm talking to you). Don't get me wrong...I'm not in a slump waiting to be dragged up, actually far from it, however, everyone needs a shove in the right direction (ever so often).

That is the most beautiful thing with people such as my friend. They may not be the most tactful individuals, but they will tell you the truth, no matter how many tears you plan on shedding. I know I definitely need to hear it sometimes!!

So thanks A!

Ps. What does this teach us? Maybe you should call and say hi to someone who has been crossing your mind. You may be a phone call away from some great insight. (Obviously with user discretion).

Xmas Present Alert: Triwa

Swedish design house Triwa are definitely adding color, and were recognized for just that by being awarded with Guldknappen (Sweden's most prestigious fashion award) for best accessories.

Inspiration: Whyred

I've always been very inspired by Swedish designers 'Whyred'! The colors, the simplicity, the straight lines. It's fashion!!! I can't wait to wear my Navy blue long winter coat from them, once it gets that cold that is.

Shop: Versace + H&M

This Versace for H&M leather dress is asking for me to attack it. I'm looking for YOU!!!

Style: Nice

Today: Deadlines

This is how I feel right now. I am the ghost with the machete looking ax-thing. Every job I ever worked was always extremely deadline oriented, so I have super low tolerance when people can't/won't stick to promised deadlines. It exhausts me when I have to chase people to finish projects. Who does that you ask. I could name 2 people right now! I need prayers as we speak so I don't go "beast" on a certain someone.

I've called Ruth 45,000 times to ask her to pray for me. She's probably just saying that she is. Hmm, what I would give to read her mind right now. I digress...but seriously, I need help.

Ps. I want my mommy!

Today: I remember...

Growing up I knew I wanted to do two things; write and create/make things. I loved telling stories and I loved anything that had to do with building things. I still do. The writing came from my mother and the building from my father. It wasn't more complicated than that:) When I was 7 I decided that I was going to write a play. Not any play, it was going to become a movie and I knew for sure that I would win an Oscar. I had the story in my head and it was only a matter of putting the words on paper. I was working on my masterpiece for years, and by years I mean days, back then three days really did seem like seven years.

The day I finished, we were invited to my mother's girlfriend's house. In an attempt to keep me occupied, my lovely mommy suggested that I draw the different characters in my story as well as their outfits. This sounded like a phenomenal idea and I started drawing. I did it for hours, until it was time to leave, and I voila...I was in love with fashion and the beauty of style. I always watched Fashion TV with my mother, but it wasn't until I started sketching that I really felt the love.

What about the play that was going to become a movie?? It sucked, and every time I tried to read it to my daddy he looked at me as if I had mental problems. He called it "never ending". I actually found it a few years ago in my old bedroom, and the embarrassment flashbacks that I'm suffering until this day are agonizing! Brrrr!!!! Thank God I was able to polish my writing skills...

Ps. The play was an insult to Oscar.

Today: Soft Spoken vs. Conversation Crasher

Today I committed the ultimate "proper etiquette" crime. I interrupted two people having what seemed to be a great conversation. Although this may seem rather trivial to some, I find interrupting people in the middle of a convo to be up there with chewing with your mouth open, picking your nose, and/or pushing a pregnant woman in line at Wholefoods, and several other horrible and barbaric acts that proper upbringing prevents me from doing. I don't know what was worse...the fact that I interrupted them or the fact that I couldn't care less. All I knew was that I wanted to speak to one of my victims.

As I approached my targets I realized that it may not have been the brightest thing to do. Once my IQ decided to kick in I was too close to act as if I was just walking by...pretending at this point would have only portrayed me as a psychotic-stalker-beast, and I will take rude over p-s-b most days of the week.
My "I don't mean to interrupt" was met with a "but ya did". Yes people "but ya did"!

Once I was done committing one of my father's cardinal sins and the source of all evil (yes, interrupting) I turned around and walked away. A few minutes later there he was...nice, easy going and very forgiving:) I couldn't help feeling a tad bit embarrassed...which made my awkwardness come out, which in turn unleashed my shyness, which resulted in him calling me soft spoken. Yes, Freud would have had a field day in my brain today. After a short conversation he was on his way and Shukorina.com gets an INTERVIEW!

Can I get a woopwoop for NO pride:)

Made by me: Notte Dress

This is what I wore to Ruth's birthday party at the W hotel in Buckhead last night. I have many more coming. Very exciting...for me at least! The dresses are available for custom order right now...CLICK and let me know:)

Inspiration: If I could, I would...

Wouldn't it be nice to travel the world and take pictures? All I would bring is my camera, a suitcase filled with colorful dresses (made by yours truly:) of course), my computer and my love. How amazing. I love telling stories with words, but a great picture leaves so much to the imagination that it makes everything that much more exciting. Good or bad...get it? I'm being super random right now, but it makes perfect sense in my mind, as do most things I say:)

Today: At the Newsroom

Today I had a meeting with Marc over at 11 Alive:) What a rush it is to see people work behind the scenes! The amount of stress and pressure that goes into a 4 min clip is incredible. I have to thank M for all the support he's been giving me!! Can't wait to show you guys what I'm working on. I'm excited!
